DEP Removing Medical Waste From Abandoned Hospital
JEANNETTE (KDKA) - The DEP was back at the abandoned Monsour Medical Center in Westmoreland County Monday to remove medical waste.
Earlier this month, Jeannette officials entered the former hospital with a search warrant and found thousands of unsecured medical files and bio-waste.
The DEP is removing medical slides with both blood and tissue samples that are still inside the hospital.
After four bankruptcies, Monsour closed in 2006 and has become the site of vandalism, squatters and fires.
Officials have expressed interested in tearing down the building, but said that process is too costly.
