Boy Breaks Both Feet, But Survives 4 Story Fall

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police called it a "miracle" when a 5-year-old boy survived a four-story fall in Wilkinsburg Sunday.

The boy fell from a 4th story window of an apartment building in the 400-block of Biddle Street around 2:30 p.m. breaking both of his feet during the fall.

Jared Collins' father, Justin, says his son was playing with his three-year-old sister when they heard their daughter cry out.

"His mother and I, we were talking, when we heard her scream. And saw what had happened."

Running into the living room where the kids were playing, they discovered that Jared had managed to open the secured living room window, falling to the concrete below. Justin Collins says it's a blessing that his son is alive and says the energetic five year old was more worried about his mom than the fall.

"As he was laying there, she was crying. And he said mom, don't cry, I'll be ok," Justin Collins said. "He was also worried about getting a shot.

Justin Collins says his son was taken to Children's Hospital and doctors were running additional tests. He says his two children will be staying with their grandparents, while he looks for a new apartment. He's concerned about Justin being able to make it up four flights of stairs with two broken feet but more importantly worried about the safety of their current apartment.
