Share Gifts With Friends On Facebook

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There are plenty of big moments on Facebook including babies, birthdays and new jobs to name a few.

Now the place where we share just about everything is letting us share something else -- gifts.

It works by just clicking on the gift icon on your friend's timeline.

Hundreds of gift ideas pop up such as coffee, cookies, cupcakes and candy.

There's also T-shirts and iTunes.

If your friends live in places like New York or Los Angeles, you can even buy them a private ride from a car company called Uber.

"For Uber, its' a great fit because it's another channel for us, a different way to reach customers," Andria Hou with Uber said.

Once you make a purchase, you can send it along with a virtual card and Facebook will notify your friend that a gift is on its way.

If you don't feel like buying a gift, you can also make a donation in your friends name through Facebook to places like the American Red Cross and Livestrong.

But will gifting on Facebook catch on?

KDKA couldn't find many takers.

"It seems like it defeats the purpose of the human aspect of giving a gift," one man said.

"I think it's a little anti-social," one woman said.

"That connection of seeing a person get a smile on their face is better than just clicking a button," another Facebook user said.
