Fayette County Nurse Charged After Baby Dies

NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - A registered nurse in Fayette County has been charged with child endangerment in connection with the 2010 death of a premature baby she was caring for.

Jackie Sue Yeagley worked for Pediatric Services of America and was caring for a 7-month-old infant at his North Union Township home.

According to the criminal complaint, Yeagley failed to respond immediately to the worsening condition of Derek Miskanin Jr. and failed to notify the baby's parents that his condition was deteriorating.

Police said she failed to properly implement resuscitation techniques after multiple alarms on the infant's ventilators sounded.

The child's father, Derek Miskanin Sr. said his son would still be alive if the nurse knew what she was doing and was properly trained.

Father also said he is happy about the arrest. He said the case is finally moving in the right direction and the person responsible for his son's death will be held accountable.

The child's mother, Montana Fisher, said nobody should have to go through this and that proper training would have led to a different outcome.

KDKA-TV contacted the nurse's lawyer, but she failed to return the call.

Yeagley will go to court later in January.
