Police Make Arrest In Alleged Attempted Indiana Co. Kidnapping

WHITE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – State police in Indiana County say they have arrested a man wanted in an alleged attempted kidnapping.

According to police, the incident happened on Marion Road, near Sunset Drive in White Township, around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

A 17-year-old girl claimed a man approached her from behind, grabbed her arm and said, "Come with me."

The girl screamed and the man then tried to grab her around the stomach, but she was able to get away.

"A situation like this can happen on any given date and time. So it's important if somebody - if you would be approached - make sure the first thing you want to do is yell or scream and call attention to yourself. You need to draw attention to yourself and that's going to also somewhat alarm that attacker," State Police Trooper John Matchik said.

According to state police, 58-year-old Andrew Edwards of Indiana, Pa., was taken into custody around 5 p.m. Monday after an arrest warrant was issued for felony kidnapping.

The victim saw a dark-colored SUV turning up Sunset Drive prior to the man appearing.
