Man Arrested After Alleged Theft, Police Standoff

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police have arrested a West Brownsville man accused of stealing a rifle and threatening to kill himself.

Police say 30-year-old John Kerik stole a 234 Rossi/Taurus Rifle and an interchangeable barrel from the Newell home of Mark Kerik Dec. 17.

Kerik was later found in West Brownsville where he threatened to kill himself during a standoff with police.

Kerik eventually surrendered and was taken to Mon Valley Hospital until he was released Dec. 20 and arrested by police.

He is being held at the Fayette County Prison on $2,500 bond.

A preliminary hearing for Kerik is set for Dec. 28.
