Nemacolin Woodlands Resort Reopens Sundial Lodge

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The first guests are enjoying the new Sundial Lodge at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.

The old ski lodge burned to the ground in February. An accidental electrical problem sparked the blaze that quickly destroyed the all-wood structure.

The only thing that survived the fire was a sundial sculpture that now sits outside the new lodge.

The new lodge features a restaurant and bar. It also includes an arcade and bowling alley that were relocated from the former wild side building that is being transformed into a casino set to open in summer 2013.

This is the first day of skiing for the season at Nemacolin.

The nine slopes will be open Friday through Monday throughout the season. The lodge will be open daily year round.

The new lodge features a bar and dining outlet called Apex, bowling alleys, arcade games, a retail shop and Adventure Headquarters.

The new lodge was designed by DRS Architects of Pittsburgh.
