1 Suspect Identified In East Liberty Police-Involved Shooting

EAST LIBERTY (KDKA) – Police have identified a suspect in a vehicle that attempted to run over a police officer Tuesday night.

According to police, Zone Five officers attempted to pull over a vehicle around 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of East Liberty Boulevard and North Negley Avenue in East Liberty.

Several officers approached the vehicle, which then sped off and nearly hit an officer. Fearing he was in danger of serious injury, the officer fired his pistol at the driver.

However, the vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed and was recovered in Wilkinsburg about 30 minutes later.

It was later determined that the car had been stolen.

Police have identified 24-year-old Bennie Wilson as the front passenger in the car. Wilson is wanted for failing to appear in court on several drug charges as well as driving under suspension, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and tampering with evidence.

The driver of the vehicle has not been identified at this time, but they will be charged with attempted aggravated assault on a police officer and fleeing or attempting to elude police.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the Pittsburgh Homicide Office at (412)-323-7161.
