Sledding Mishap Kills Teen Girl

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A local teenage girl died after a sledding accident Friday.

The girl, 16-year-old Jenna Prusia, was sledding with her twin sister Ashton along McCreary Road in Washington Township.

The two girls were out sledding while on winter break from school.

"Going out and doing what teenagers do," Prusia's father, Duane, said.

Prusia died after she hit a tree. She was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital.

"We learned later that she likely passed on the hill or on the way to Children's," Duane Prusia said.

Prusia's parents say she was very active at Kiski Area High School, where she was a junior.

The teen played several instruments, was on the volleyball team and in band at her high school, as well as a devout Christian, her parents said. Prusia left behind a prayer journal that her parents discovered after returning home from the hospital.

"And just to see in her life, a young innocent woman turning into a virtuous woman on paper is just a precious gift that she left," Duane Prusia said.

Prusia's parents say they've had a lot of support from friends and family since their daughter's death.
