Man Uses Hammer, Tries To Break Into Steelers Locker Room

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man was arrested after allegedly trying to break into the Steelers' locker room Saturday morning.

The man, 28-year-old John Winters used the hammer to break the lock on Gate B.

Once inside, security guards noticed him on on surveillance video wandering around the field area before walking towards the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room, where he tried to use the hammer to force his way into the locker room.

A Heinz Field security guard called Pittsburgh Police and they confronted the Brighton Heights man who was wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates hat and sweatpants in the hallway that leads to the locker room.

Officers found marks on two doors as well as damage to a bolt holding the knob on the locker room door.

Saturday's incident isn't Winters' first run-in with the law.

Winters pleaded guilty in 2012 in a simple assault case as well as retail theft and receiving stolen property.

Winters was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and charged with burglary and possessing instruments of crime.
