High-Rise Fire Displaces 2 Busloads Of People

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Several people were left in the cold early Saturday morning after a fire broke out in North Side high-rise.

The fire started just before 1 a.m. Saturday on the 8th floor of the Northview Heights public housing building on Mt. Pleasant Road.

Everyone in the building was evacuated, filing the two Port Authority buses that were brought in to keep people out of the cold.

During the evacuation, it was feared that one or two adults, as well as a child, were trapped inside, but no one was hurt.

The fire was contained to just one apartment, but smoke spread to several other units.

Police are still trying to determine what started the fire.
