14-Year-Old Ordered To Stand Trial In Beaver Co. Woman's Death

BEAVER (KDKA) -- A 14-year-old boy has been ordered to stand trial for the murder of a young mother from Beaver County.

Marcus Velasquez was led into court in Beaver County on Tuesday. He's one of three teenagers charged in the murder of 22-year-old Kayla Peterson.

Velasquez, Todavia Cleckley, also 14, and Kyle Goosby, Jr., 13, are accused in the shooting death of Peterson on 13th Street in Beaver Falls in early December.

Police say the teenagers followed Peterson's boyfriend home, pestering him for cigarettes.

Police say Velasquez is accused of pulling the trigger when she told the teens to get a job.

In court on Tuesday, Velasquez was held for court.

"I will always love her and she's in my heart and soul," said John Peterson, Kayla's father.

Peterson's family attended the hearing, and say it's terrible that she's gone over such a trivial reason.

"It's a shame that everything has to boil down to this, you know," Kayla's father added.

"It is a shame, like John said, what happened over cigarettes. They took a life of a young woman, just 22-years-old, beginning life. She has a child; she has a baby, the baby will never know her mother now," said Cindy O'Keefe, John Peterson's fiancée.
