Penguins' Fans Happy Hockey Has Returned To Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The familiar battle cries had fallen silent for much too long.

But on Wednesday night, the shouts of "Let's Go Pens!" could be heard all around CONSOL Energy Center as the Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs in their home opener.

The NHL lockout wiped out four months of play, and fans say they have to make up for lost time.

Doug Matisz told KDKA, "The city missed it. Everybody missed it. Glad it's all back. Everybody's back to work."

"Oh, I can't even believe it. It's so wonderful. We've been waiting for so long," Kelly Jeffrey said. "I have a 3-year-old who loves Crosby and is so excited."

Fans were also pumped about the perks.

CONSOL offered game-goers discounted merchandise and vouchers for free concession items. Plus, each fan received a gold t-shirt.

They have big expectations for the season.

"Nothing but the highest of hopes, man," said Joe Fodor. "Let's make it to the Stanley Cup Finals!"
