CENTER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — State police continue to investigating an apparent murder-suicide in Butler County.
Investigators say state troopers were called to the 5100-block of Brown Road in Center Township overnight for reports of a shooting.
Police say neighbors called 911 after hearing multiple gunshots right before 1:30 a.m.
According to state police, troopers found the body of 45-year-old Sonja Kummer lying on the ground outside of the home.
Police then found the body of 49-year-old Dean Clawson while inside the home.
State police say he had “sustained a self-inflicted shotgun wound.”
Kummer and Clawson had reportedly gotten into some sort of disagreement Friday night that continued into the early morning hours.
Kummer was packing her car with personal items to leave Clawson, when he reportedly followed her outside and allegedly shot Kummer with a shotgun in the head and upper torso.
State Police have been to the home before. In December, they were there for a verbal domestic incident.
“I had seen the police there several times before and I knew there had been instances, but I didn’t know what the extent of those instances had been,” said Russ Whittaker, a neighbor.
Kummer leaves behind an adult son who lives in Butler County.
