Police Investigate Double Shooting Downtown

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating after a man and woman were shot downtown Tuesday night.

It happened around 9 p.m. near 7th Street and Fort Duquesne Boulevard on a walkway underneath the 7th Street Bridge.

Police say the shooting was the result of a drug-related attempted robbery.

After being shot the two victims ran up the stairs of the walkway yelling that they had been shot and ultimately ended up near 5th Avenue and Smithfield Street.

Lyndesha Rose said she was downtown waiting to catch the bus back home to Wilkinsburg when she saw police converge onto 5th Avenue where the man and woman were found.

"This is horrible, terrible, you're not even safe anymore downtown," she said.

One victim was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, the other was taken to UPMC Mercy and are said to be in stable condition.

Police say they are looking for a light-skinned black man with braids, in his 20s who was involved with the shooting.

The victims said they didn't know the suspect, but police are checking surveillance video on Port Authority buses because the three people may have taken the same bus together.
