Former Congresswoman Melissa Hart In Accident

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Former Congresswoman Melissa Hart is recovering after she was injured in a serious accident in Butler County.

The accident happened on Jan. 26 in Slippery Rock.

Authorities say Hart was getting into her parked SUV when a 17-year-old girl struck her.

Police say at first it appeared that the teenage driver left the scene of the accident.

"She was very visibly [shaken] up about it," said Chief Terry Fedokovitz, of Slippery Rock Police. "She stated she knew she hit something, didn't know what she hit, and that's when she stopped, realized it, proceeded a little bit farther north turning into the parking lot of the Kwik Fill."

Police say they are not sure if the teenage driver was using a cell phone at the time.

No charges have been filed as of now.

Two weeks after the accident, Hart continues to recover.
