Greensburg Native, Mediate Wins First Champions Tour Event

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)--A final round of 71 was enough for Greensburg native, Rocco Mediate to hold on to the Allianz Championship of the Champions Tour. It was the first tournament in which Mediate participated, making him the sixteenth player to win their first event on the tour.

Mediate shot an 11-under par round of 61 on Saturday to propel him into the lead, which he never surrendered. On Friday he shot a 67 round.

A bogey on the 14th hole of the final round on Sunday gave Mediate a bit of a scare, as Tom Pernice Jr. birdied the same hole putting the two into a tie at 16-under par with four holes to play. Pernice Jr. would bogey the 17th hole giving Mediate a one stroke lead heading into the final hole. Mediate birdied that hole giving him a two stroke win.

As a member of the PGA Tour, Mediate won six events and has eleven professional wins.
