Two Artists With Local Ties Nominated For Grammys

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Two artists with local ties were nominated at this year's Grammys, but were passed over in each category.

Pittsburgh native and rapper Wiz Khalifa was nominated in the category of "Best Rap Song" for his hit "Young, Wild & Free," as well as in the category of "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance" for his contribution to the song "Payphone" with Maroon 5.

But Khalifa was passed over in both categories.

In December, Khalifa sparked controversy when Dec. 12 was declared Wiz Khalifa day in Pittsburgh.

Khalifa is also an outspoken and active supporter of marijuana.

The jazz artist Bob Mintzer was also nominated for two Grammys in the categories of "Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album" and "Best Instrumental Arrangement."

Mintzer lives in Los Angeles and teaches at the University of Southern California, but recorded his album "For The Moment" at Pittsburgh's MCG Jazz studios.

However, Mintzer was passed over in both categories during the pre-telecast.
