SHALER (KDKA) – A home in Shaler Township is believed to be a total loss after a Wednesday morning fire.

According to officials at the scene, the two-alarm fire broke out at a home on Shaler Avenue around 9 a.m.

“There’s no saying. You don’t know how you feel. You see it all the time, you hear it all the time,” a neighbor said.

What she saw and heard was her longtime neighbor’s home beginning to burn.

“I thought, ‘Oh, they’re burning some wood.’ And that’s what I thought it was. I thought it was a wood stack and then I saw the fire,” she said.

Within minutes, the 19-year-old home, which the family built, was engulfed in flames. One woman was inside at the time of the fire, but was able to get out safely.

“She was getting ready to go to work when she heard this pop and she thought it was something in the attic,” the neighbor said. “You couldn’t ask for nicer neighbors. They’re right there for you. If you needed help, they’d be there for you.”

There are no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is unknown.
