Veterans Officials Discuss Jobs, Benefits & Transitioning Into Civilian Life

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) -- Chris Moore talked about veteran's issues with several armed service officials.

Moore spoke with Chris Jenkins who is the National Service Officer for the Military Order of the Purple Heart and he also spoke with James Yauger who is Program Counselor, National Student Council Member and Student Veterans of American at Seton Hill University, who told Chris what type of work they are doing in the community for veterans.

Benjamin Butler Vocational Rehabilitation and Counseling offers at the Department of Veterans Affairs, also joined Chris to talk about veteran's who are trying to transition back into civilian life. His group helps veterans find everything from education to employment.

Donald Nemchick, Veteran's Project Manager at Riverside Center for Innovation, told Chris that he helps veterans start small businesses of their own.

The guests also talked about current veterans' issues, including helping a returning veteran get a job , what benefits veterans are entitled to, disabled veteran's issues and what programs are available for homeless veterans.

Veterans Employment Coordinator at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Curtis Raybuck, said that they want to help and will do what they can for any veteran, but they "have to come to us," for help.
