Family Forced Out By Fire

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A family escaped a burning home in Franklin Park Tuesday night.

Firefighters said the blaze broke out in a bedroom of the two-story house in the 1100-block of Daffodil Lane. Responders were on the scene for several hours.

More than two dozen firefighters were on the scene. The house in flames was located on a dirt road, so firefighters had to go a couple hundred yards to reach a hydrant.

"The family was here, they smell smoke, the fire alarms went off in the house," Franklin Park Fire Chief Gary Scheller said. "They evacuated, called 911."

Scheller said upon investigation, firefighters determined that a mattress was on fire in one of the bedrooms.

There is heavy smoke and fire damage on the second floor.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
