WALL, Pa. (KDKA) — A local mother is in police custody after reportedly walking into the woods with her child and then leaving the child alone there.

Authorities say the incident happened right before 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 600-block of Irwin Street in Wall Borough.

East McKeesport Police were alerted and were able to locate the child.

The child was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital to be evaluated.

The mother was taken into custody.

Police have not said what prompted the mother to leave her child in the woods.
