Wagner To Join Mayoral Race

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It looks like there will be a third candidate for Pittsburgh Mayor in the Democratic primary.

Former State Auditor General Jack Wagner will be running for mayor his niece, Allegheny County Controller Chelsa Wagner says.

Wagner told NewsRadio 1020 KDKA that she has been talking with Wagner almost every day and he has alerted many people that he will run in the primary.

The former auditor general had long been rumored to be a potential candidate.

Wagner first announced that he was considering joining the primary over the weekend.

"I'm presently in Israel experiencing the trip of a lifetime and learning how their government works," Wagner said in a statement Saturday. "I have not totally assessed the situation in Pittsburgh but (will) in the coming days. I am now looking at running in the primary."

Pittsburgh City Council President Darlene Harris is reportedly circulating petitions to run and state Sen. Jim Ferlo may do the same.

Neither has made a final decision.
