Mt. Lebanon Teacher Wanted For Sexual Communication With Student

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police have issued a warrant for a Mt. Lebanon High School teacher accused of having inappropriate sexual communication with a student.

The Mt. Lebanon School District released a statement Thursday saying it had received information Monday from a graduate that Jason Greenawalt had conducted "inappropriate communications of a sexual nature."

The district says once it was notified, Greenawalt was placed on suspension.

Greenawalt has taught at the high school since 2004. He was the high school choir director, musical director, oversaw choral activities and was the band auxiliary sponsor.

Police say communication between teacher and male student was termed "inappropriate" and of a sexual nature by the former student, who claims the communications began when the student was a sophomore. The student graduated from Mt. lebanon High in 2012.

The two communicated by text and by Grinder.com, a site that includes opportunities for gay men to connect.

He is wanted on charges of corruption of a minor, unlawful contact with a minor and criminal use of a communication facility.

Police say Greenawalt is making arrangements through his attorney to turn himself in, possibly tomorrow.

The district also says that all employees have to pass state and federal clearances before being hired and that Greenawalt showed no previous violations.

"As you can imagine, I am deeply disheartened by these events," Superintendent Timothy Steinhauer wrote in a letter sent to parents Thursday. "I want you to know the District's top priority is the safety and security of each and every student. We take this responsibility very seriously and work diligently to follow the comprehensive policies and guidelines that are in place to protect our students."

This accusation comes amid another accusation of sexual assault by a teach at Perry Traditional Academy.

Wednesday a second student came forward saying 29-year-old Michael White made the female student perform lap dances on male students and kissed her on the lips. She also says that she and White had sex at his house at least two times and that he gave her alcohol and marijuana before having sex with her.

Police are continuing to investigate the accusations and plan to talk to more students about possible inappropriate relations with White.

Parents and students were urged by the district to contact the Mt. Lebanon Police Department with any questions or concerns.
