West Allegheny Teacher Charged With Sex Assault To Stand Trial
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A local teacher accused of giving a former student alcohol and then having sex with her will stand trial.
William Morosetti left district court Friday morning with his attorney by his side, after learning that his case will be held for trial.
The 28-year-old Coraopolis man taught math at West Allegheny Senior High School and was also the assistant wrestling coach at the school. Police say Morosetti is accused of having sex with a former student and giving her alcohol last spring. The acts reportedly took place when she was 18 years old.
“She was an adult, it’s not like she was a minor,” Morosetti’s attorney Michael Foglia said.
Morosetti was the girl’s teacher for three years at West Allegheny. She told investigators it wasn’t until her senior year that they got close and started to hang out.
“I personally feel that the statue is unconstitutional because there’s no question that her testimony, that she was over the age of 18,” Foglia said.
The criminal complaint says Morosetti had sex six times with the girl between April and June of 2012. The majority of acts took place at Morosetti’s home.
The student told police that Morosetti asked her to drive herself to his home because he didn’t want anyone to see him picking her up.
The school district superintendent contacted authorities about the reported relationship after a concerned parent wrote an anonymous letter.
Under Pennsylvania law, a school employee who engages in sexual intercourse with a student commits a third-degree felony.
Morosetti has been suspended from teaching at West Allegheny. The girl told police she and Morosetti broke up around the time she graduated last year.
