Country Club Chef Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Teen Boy

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man who works as a chef at a local country club is accused of sexually assaulting a teen boy.

The boy says he was bribed to keep quiet.

The chef, 44-year-old Gary Burgess of Carnegie, was arrested Monday afternoon by Scott Township police. Many say he is a highly regarded chef, but is now accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy.

The boy says he was first molested by Burgess when he was just 7 years old.

His neighbor Edna Keller says she doesn't believe it.

"He's too good of a guy," she said. "I mean, he's a really good guy. You can ask any neighbor around here. He'll be the first to help anybody out."

Keller says she's known him and his live-in boyfriend for more than five years. She calls him a good friend and says they talk every day.

"He's an excellent guy," she said. "Hard worker, takes care of his mother, takes care of a beautiful home. Excellent."

Police say Burgess bought the boy an X-Box gaming console and threatened to take it away if he ever told anyone what happened.

Burgess is the executive chef at Chartiers Country Club. Police say there is no indication that anything inappropriate happened at the club.

Burgess is in jail and charged with corruption of minors, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse and indecent assault.
