From The Fan Morning Show
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Former Pitt and NFL free safety and current Pitt graduate assistant Hank Poteat joined The Fan Morning Show on Thursday to chat about the Panthers’ offseason and NFL free agency.
“A lot of young athletes, they’re getting started earlier with personal training. They’re also going to a lot of different combines. They’re having a lot of people work on them with different techniques. When I was coming up, there might be one camp, and you pretty much played. You just went off with your natural ability,” Poteat said.
Poteat, who helps coach Pitt’s secondary, praised the effort of incoming red-shirt sophomore Lafayette Pitts.
“He works hard,” Poteat said. “He’s aggressive. He won’t back down from anybody.”
He also spoke highly of incoming senior K’Waun Williams.
“He’s a guy who has all the tools – good speed, explosive in and out of his breaks,” Poteat said. “And these young guys, they’re eager to learn. Whatever I have to say, they want to understand the whole concept of the game. And that’s what I’m here for.”
“I always had to just be patient, and just stay ready, stay in shape,” Poteat said. “It’s definitely a business. I enjoyed it, I learned a lot. You understand that it’s a very small window, but you’ve got to take advantage of every opportunity, because you never know when it’s your last game.
Poteat joined the guys on behalf of “Dessert Tasting For A Cause,” which is coming up on April 13. More information can be found at www.DessertTastingForACause.com.
