Bob Errey On Iginla Trade: 'Merry Christmas!'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - "Merry Christmas!" was the reaction from Root Sports hockey analyst Bob Errey today on 93.7 the Fan when asked about the trade for Calgary forward Jarome Iginla.

The 35-year-old is coming to the Pens for college prospects Ben Hanowski and Kenneth Agostino along with the Pens' first round pick in this year's draft.

"I think the Penguins have one-upped what I thought was possible. Ray Shero and the management, of course Mario Lemieux has a relationship with Iginla. Jarome Iginla wants to win a Stanley Cup. He chose Pittsburgh. I love it! I love depth, but I love quality people that don't have egos. Jarome Iginla fits that bill," Errey said.

Errey's former teammate and Stanley Cup champion Peter Taglianetti told the Fan Morning Show he expects Iginla to displace Pascal Dupuis on the top line with Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz.

"Jarome Iginla is a goal scorer, Taglianetti said. "He's a guy who goes to the corner, but is not afraid to go in front of the net. Unfortunately, guys like Pascal Dupuis might find themselves knocked around a little bit until they find out where they can be."

NHL Network's Kevin Weekes said, "I have to give the upmost credit to GM Ray Shero. He didn't let the market dictate the market and who was available. This is literally a thief-in-the-night, coming in at the midnight hour and getting this deal done. This is unreal stuff."
