Volunteers Scale Mt. Washington For Trash Cleanup

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – More than 40 volunteers scaled the steep hill on Mount Washington to clean up a year's worth of trash.

Men and women from the Explorers Club of Pittsburgh, the Allegheny Mon Rescue Group and the Pitt Outdoors Group put on harnesses and could be seen hanging from the railing.

Ginette Walker Vinski organized the Mount Washington Cleanup.

She, along with numerous others, feel the annual event -- now in its 21st year, is necessary.

During Sunday's cleanup, crews found a shopping cart and a child stroller, among other trash.

The three-hour cleanup typically nets 60 bags of trash and 25 bags of recyclables.

Volunteers say they hope people respect what they're doing and won't litter.
