PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Two parents were charged Tuesday, after their toddler was found wandering by himself in only a diaper along Butler Street.

Police say a female driver spotted the 2-year-old near the intersection of Butler and 39th streets. The woman then got out and stopped the boy from walking into traffic and called 911.

Police were able to find out where the boy lived and say that when they got to the home, the boy’s father, 23-year-old Gerald Lee of Lawrenceville, “became hysterical stating that he wanted to see his kid.”

After that, police say he became combative and was handcuffed by police.

Reportedly the mother, 22-year-old Shanikqa Peterson, and the boy were visiting Lee when the toddler got away.

Police say Peterson expressed no concern over the boy’s disappearance, asking, “He got out again?”

Lee and Peterson have been charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Lee is also charged with resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
