SCOTT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — The owners of several dogs in Scott Township were in court Wednesday because one of the animals attacked a little boy last month.

Chelsea McBeth and Laura Blondsey were given citations by District Justice Gary Zyra after their friend’s 5-year-old son was allegedly attacked by their pit bulls.

Cameron Batzel suffered dog bites, cuts and lacerations after the dogs pounced on the boy as he and his mother were visiting the women’s Carothers Avenue home.

Several hours after the attack, as her son was being treated in Children’s Hospital emergency room, Batzel’s mother – who also suffered dog bites – described what took place and how she reacted.

“My son let out a playful scream, and one dog took it seriously and started attacking him. Then, all the dogs jumped on him and me as I was trying to shield him from further injury,” said Amber Lynn Bayer, the victim’s mother. “I had to throw my body on my son because I felt if I wouldn’t have they would have eaten him.”

The four dogs involved in the attack were removed from the home by an animal control officer.

McBeth and Blondsey were given citations because it was determined that their pit bulls did not have current licenses or rabies vaccinations. In addition, they were cited for harboring a dangerous canine.

The district magistrate also ordered the women to erect a six-foot fence around their property.
