Bell: Approach Tailored To Each Hitter
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan) - Jay Bell was a fan favorite when he was the Pirates starting shortstop in the 1990s.
This season, he returned as hitting coach to work with the Pirates' young hitters.
Bell told KDKA's Bob Pompeani Saturday that with a good pitcher, it's tough to hit their good pitches.
"So, one of the things that we're trying to stress is don't worry about his good pitches. We're going to try and hit his mistakes when they come, and last night [Friday against Tim Hudson] they certainly did that," said Bell.
Pompeani asked Bell what kind of approach that he uses when every hitter is different.
"There are tons of ways to get the job done," Bell said. "It's just a matter of taking what works for you best and sticking to it."
