Bus Driver Charged In Hit And Run

FOREST HILLS, Pa. (AP) - A Pittsburgh Public Schools bus driver has been charged with hitting a 67-year-old woman with his bus, then leaving the scene.

Allegheny County police have charged 71-year-old Ernest Brevard, of Wilkins Township, with leaving the scene of Wednesday's accident in Forest Hills.

Police say that's where witnesses saw Brevard run over Alberta Slaczka about 8 a.m.

Brevard's wife answered the phone Friday and says he won't be commenting and refused to give the name of his attorney.

A school district spokeswoman could not immediately name the company that employs Brevard.

Police say Brevard denied hitting the woman and says he was aware of a body lying in the road, but that he just got out of his bus to look around with other bystanders.
