Kennywood To Open Its Doors This Weekend

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) --- There's a lot of activity in downtown Pittsburgh this weekend, with the Marathon and Pirates games. The icing on the cake?

Kennywood opens for the season tomorrow.

Workers are pulling weeds, painting poles, and preparing for the laser show. Gearing up the cotton candy maker is low stress work compared to the guy who has test the towering "Skycoast jump."

The carousel horses have been in place ever since the ride was installed, in 1926. But the paint job on some of them is brand new, as of this week.

Meanwhile, "Kiddieland" has become more parent friendly.

"We made the area bigger and we put in new fencing," says park spokesman Jeff Filicko. "And that allows parents, for the first time, to put their kids on and off the ride, instead of relying on our team members to do it."

Filicko also recommends the VIP Coaster Tour for those hate long lines.

"We've expanded it a little in the last two years to offer thrill rides and water rides to. So it's a good thing to do on the busy days. If you don't want to wait in line, it's a good option to have," Filicko says.

It's Black and Gold versus Purple in a new comedy stunt show. Guess which ones are the bad guys?

"Baron Van Ball, which is myself, plays the evil leader," says stunt leader Aaron Hurt. "He has a bunch of henchmen, the ravens. They take on the heroes who are dressed in black and gold."

As always, at Kennywood, bad guys finish last.
