Walk On Wednesday: J-Mac's Trip To DL Sounds Unplanned, Probably Nothing Serious
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Pirates color commentator and former pitcher Bob Walk joined The Fan Morning Show today for another edition of his weekly segment, "Walk on Wednesday."
Walk doesn't think James McDonald's trip to the disabled list has anything to do with McDonald's stuff.
"It was kind of a surprise to me, because I didn't think that, stuff-wise was really a problem," Walk said. "It sounds like it was an unplanned thing. That being the case, I don't think it's something really serious."
Walk feels that setup man Mark Melancon has been successful thanks to his cut fastball.
"He has very good control of an excellent pitch, which is a low-90 cutter," Melancon said. "Every upper-echelon reliever- late-inning reliever, whether they're a closer, or an 8th inning guy, or whatever, they have something they do with one pitch that's very special. And with him it's that cutter."
"Walk on Wednesday" can be heard every Wednesday on The Fan Morning Show at 8:40 a.m.
