Woman Accused Of Leading Police On Chase, Killing Officer In Court

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The woman accused of leading police on a chase that ended in the death of a local police officer-- is now back in Pennsylvania to face charges.

Kylee Barletto back in Lawrence County Monday.

Barletto now faces more than a dozen charges, including homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter and manslaughter of a law enforcement officer.

Barletto was receiving medical treatment at a Youngstown, Ohio hospital.

She was injured during a police chase in Shenango Township and police officer Jerry McCarthy was killed in the May 2 accident.

Defense attorneys claim Barletto is devastated.

"Myself and the family feels very, very sorry for the officers involved in this, the one that was injured and also the one that died -- we feel very, very badly about that," her defense attorney said.

Officer McCarthy was killed when police say Barletto smashed into his police car while leading other police cars on a high speed chase.

Police say Barletto told them she did something stupid and panicked and took off; worried she was driving with a suspended license.

Barletto is being held on a $250,000 bond and her attorney is asking for a change of venue for her trial.
