Steelers CB Cortez Allen 'Very, Very Confident' In The Season Ahead

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - One of the key Steelers to watch in the upcoming season will be cornerback Cortez Allen. The third-year player from The Citadel joins Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan's Troy Clardy for a look at the upcoming season, and an update on how the organized team activities are going.

While many are questioning the Steelers' ability to win big during a transition period, Allen feels good.

"I feel confident in our ability to compete," Allen said. "The environment within the locker room has not changed as far as what we expect from each other. We still do have the key components in every phase of our team. We still have guys that helped us be the number one secondary in the league, and a lot of guys are still here who helped us be the number one defense. I'm very, very confident that we'll do what we're capable of doing when we put the work into it."

For two straight seasons, the Steelers defense has been the NFL's top-ranked total defense. Allen reveals that he takes great pride in being a part of those performances.

"I think in anything you do, you want to be the best at it. You'd like to be at the top in each category on the defensive side, and it will always be our goal to be at the top in turnovers too. To have that top statistic is tremendous, and to do it two years in a row is even more remarkable. It's a credit to our coaching staff, our players, and the commitment we have," Allen said.

Cortez also tells what he is working on as the season approaches, explains the challenges of covering slot receivers, and tells how his background at The Citadel--a military college--continues to impact him as a person.
