WHITAKER (KDKA) – Police are investigating after one man was injured in an early Monday morning shooting in Whitaker.
According to police, the shooting happened near the intersection of Whitaker Way and West Schwab Avenue around 1:30 a.m.
Neighbors heard several shots fired early Monday morning. It’s believed that one man was targeted and police are looking at robbery as a possible motive.
Neighbors heard at least three shots and then a rush of lights and sirens. The victim had been shot in the stomach.
He was rushed to UPMC Mercy Hospital, but is expected to survive.
Because the boroughs border one another, Munhall Police assisted Whitaker Police until Allegheny County Police took over the investigation. Forensic investigators were also on the scene looking for any additional evidence.
Neighbors believe it’s unlikely that this was a random street robbery.
