Man Arrested After Breaking Into East Liberty Church

EAST LIBERTY (KDKA) – One person has been arrested in connection with a break-in at a church in East Liberty.

According to police, the incident happened at the Pentecostal Temple Church Of God In Christ. in the 6300-block of East Liberty Boulevard.

The suspect allegedly broke in and stole cigarettes from a display case inside the church.

Police say it wasn't the first time someone tried to break into the church and there was some damage to the building.

The display featured items that people had given up in their lives.

Police say 22-year-old Emmanuel Jordan was arrested within minutes of breaking into the church.

After that, he tried to escape through the front entrance but got trapped. Unable to get out through the glass doors, he found a way out through the closet and crawling through a narrow space to a stairwell.

Police caught Jordan as he tried to escape.

Years ago, another would-be burglar tried to get into the church, but was scared off by the alarm.

Church members say Jordan has had trouble in the past and they are praying that he gets the help he needs.
