Former Local Radio Host Jailed On Child Pornography Charges

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A former local radio personality is in jail after allegedly having and sharing child pornography.

Police say 65-year-old Michael McGann, a former radio host and program director for WTAE, WJAS and 96KX, is accused of having and distributing child pornography.

McGann had a radio career spanning more than 30 years and worked at WJAS until 2008.

According to the police criminal complaint, an undercover detective spoke with McGann online in February of 2012.

McGann allegedly said while chatting with the detective, that he had performed sexual acts on a minor and talked about viewing child pornography, in addition to sharing 57 photos.

Detectives tell KDKA though, that there is no evidence at this time that he physically sexually assaulted any children.

In August, police obtained a search warrant and questioned McGann.

Police say McGann denied viewing child pornography and used file sharing programs to share movies and primarily Christian music.

However, police say a preliminary search of his computer revealed 50 child pornography photos.

McGann currently faces charges, including two counts of sexual abuse of children, possession of child pornography and dissemination of photos.

His former employers at WJAS say McGann left under good terms and that his position had been eliminated. They say they are shocked by the allegations.
