Mom Held For Trial On All Charges After Snatching Son From Sister's Home

SWISSVALE (KDKA) – A woman who was arrested for snatching her son from her sister's home in Swissvale last month was in court Wednesday.

Xia Lomax says what happened the night of May 23 was a mistake that got blown out of proportion.

"We're over it," she said.

Lomax was arrested that night and charged with kidnapping a 2-year-old boy from her sister's home in Swissvale.

Although the boy is her biological son, she does not have legal rights to the child. Her sister has custody.

KDKA's Brenda Waters: "So there's no anger or anything between the sisters?

Lomax: "No, I love my sister."

Ericka Coleman: "And it love my sister. It was just a misunderstanding that has been…"

Lomax: "It's over."

Coleman: "We're going to go to trial."

The charge of kidnapping was held for court and Lomax will stand trial.

But charges against the guy who transported Lomax and her son that night in his car were dropped, including a charge of kidnapping.

Gary Howcroft's attorney says his client is guilty of one thing.

"Essentially, he's guilty of being a nice guy," Michael Tribanic, Howcroft's attorney, said.

Howcroft owns the building where Lomax has an apartment and thought he was giving her a ride to pick up a cell phone.

Lomax has a formal arraignment on July 24.

Meanwhile, Howcroft was fined $100 for not having a child safety seat in his car that night.
