Opening Of Arts Festival Also Marks Return Of Fountain

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's all systems are go for a big weekend in Pittsburgh.

The Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival is in full swing, and a big celebration is planned for the reopening of the Point State Park Fountain.

The annual wonderful assault on the senses is on.

Whether it's the ear, the eye or the palate, there is always something unique about the Three Rivers Arts Festival.

KDKA's John Shumway Reports:

"It's just great to be outdoors, enjoy the Arts Festival food. It's just a great day," said Lance Davis, of Monroeville.

New signs have classed up food booth row in the park, and there are so many choices to pick from.

"We got some batter-dipped Oreo's with some strawberry sauce on it," said Adam Wade, of Penn Hills.

"I love baked goods," added Melanie Gay, also of Penn Hills. "I love fried food, too!"

This year, the Arts Festival also kicked off Food Truck Fridays.

But it's the art - in every imaginable shape and creation - that is the real star of this show.

KDKA's John Shumway Reports:

And for the first time in four years, the fountain at Point State Park - which was being tested before dawn Friday morning - returns new, improved and a bit more flood-resistant.

"With the infinity edge, we'll have a little bit less flooding that actually gets into the center hub now," said Matt Greene, the park manager. "With the second story on the fountain pump house, all the electronics have moved to that second story and that takes it out of the flood zone with a lot of that stuff."
