PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The future is now for the Pirates.
The team announced Saturday afternoon that their top prospect, right-handed pitcher Gerrit Cole, will make his MLB debut Tuesday night against the San Francisco Giants at PNC Park.
Cole, 22, was the Pirates' first-round pick and the first-overall selection in the 2011 MLB Draft.
He will face the Giants' Tim Lincecum.
Cole went 5-3 with a 2.91 ERA in 12 starts with Triple-A Indianapolis this season.
"Baseball America" ranked Cole as the Pirates' No. 1 prospect and the No. 12 prospect in all of minor league baseball.
