Family Devastated After Neighbor Shoots Family Dogs
YOUNGSTOWN (KDKA) -- A Westmoreland County family is furious after a neighbor killed one of their dogs and seriously injured another.
It happened last week at a home on Urban Avenue in Youngstown.
The family's 5-year-old Red Heeler and 8-year-old Husky accidentally got outside while the owner was in the shower. She heard three gunshots, but didn't think anything of it since they live in a rural area.
Crystal Snyder says when she saw her dog bleeding, she understood what had happened.
She went outside to find the other dog dead on the ground.
Both had been shot by the next door neighbor with a shotgun.
He told police the dogs came onto his property and attacked him.
No charges have been filed because police say there are no witnesses to prove what happened.
Police met with the district attorney Wednesday to discuss veterinary records obtained this morning.
The family says it's not just about the charges, but also about keeping this from happening again.
They are mourning their deceased pet and also scared for their safety.
