Evgeni Malkin's Agent Dishes Details Of How Contract Was Completed

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Evgeni Malkin's agent JP Barry joined Starkey, Miller and Mueller today to talk about how the contract between Malkin and the Penguins came to be and why it didn't take very long for the two sides to reach an agreement.

"We talked, and when I came in first it was, 'Do you want to stay?'  And the answer was, 'Yes, I want to stay.'  So then, question two was whether or not we could make it work.  When I found out that he wanted to stay and then I found out from the team that they wanted to keep him, that made things a little bit easier," said Barry.

Barry also went over the other factors outside of money that led to Malkin wanting to stay with the Pens.

"There's a family atmosphere for sure.  He feels very comfortable not just in the organization but in the town," Barry said. "He's very happy in Pittsburgh and I think that had a huge impact, and also his relationship with Sid.  They've really managed to be friends and to work together and try to win together."

Barry also discussed the offers to play in the Russian KHL league adding that Malkin wants to play in the NHL with the best players in the world despite the huge financial offers the KHL has made.
