Security Policy Changes Coming To Heinz Field

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Steelers have announced a new policy for fans at Heinz Field this upcoming season. It's a policy dictated by the NFL.

The NFL sent the message Thursday, and it is clear and specific about which kinds of bags can and cannot be brought to football games.

The prohibited items include purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, luggage of any kind, seat cushions, computer bags and camera bags.

This is the list of what is permitted:

  • Bags that are clear plastic and do not exceed 12-inches by six-inches by 12-inches.
  • A one-gallon, clear, plastic freezer bag (Ziplock or similar)
  • And small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap.

Those can be brought into the stadium along with one of the clear bag options.

In the statement sent out by the Steelers, they point out that this new policy affects the entire league and it was unanimously recommended by the NFL committee on stadium security.

The NFL says this will make the job of checking items much more efficient and effective.
