Woman Shot In Home After Angry Text Message Exchange

FAYETTE COUNTY (KDKA) – A criminal complaint contains text messages the defendant sent to victim in hours before the shooting.

They are filled with profanity and in one message, the defendant writes, "I hope you die."

"That's surprising," said neighbor Steven Buncic with a laugh.

That's how neighbors reacted when learning what happened at a Broadway Street mobile home in Nicholson Township early Thursday morning.

Police say 42-year-old Garrett Weeder Sr. of Lake Lynn had been arguing with his girlfriend who lives in the mobile home all night.

After repeated threats via text message, Weeder allegedly rode his motorcycle to the scene and fired five shots from his deceased father's handgun toward the house.

Three actually hit the trailer -- one missing his pregnant girlfriend by just inches, as she stood in the kitchen.

She ran to the living room to hide, before calling police.

Weeder told police he was home sleeping.

He denies firing the shots and says he doesn't know who sent the nasty text messages.

"It's scary, put it that way, leave me alone," Buncic said. "As long as it stays on their side, I don't want to get shot."

The defendant is in jail on $50,000 bond with his hearing set for July.
