Pirates Tied For Division Lead & Best Record In Baseball

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – For the first time in nearly 35 years, the Pittsburgh Pirates are 18 games over .500 at this point in the season.

The last time that happened was 1979, when the Pirates went on to win the World Series.

With a 4-2 win over the Mariners on Wednesday, the Pirates extended their winning streak to six games and now have a 48-30 record. They are now tied with the St. Louis Cardinals for the lead in the National League Central Division.

One other note, the Pirates and Cardinals have the best record in baseball.

The Pirates will now return home after going 7-2 on a nine-game road trip against the Reds, Angels and Mariners.

Looking ahead at the schedule, the Pirates have a great opportunity to continue to pile up some wins.

On Friday, the Pirates will open up a three-game series against division rival Milwaukee. They will then host a three-game series against Philadelphia before going on the road for a three-game set with the Chicago Cubs.

While it's easy to look at that upcoming schedule and get excited, the Pirates continue to just take it one game at a time.
