PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The University of Pittsburgh celebrated its official entrance into the Atlantic Coast Conference with a party at Stage AE earlier this evening.
Broadcasting live from the event, Andrew Fillipponi welcomed Panthers men’s basketball coach Jamie Dixon to the show.
Dixon is proud of the conference his squad will be joining and he sings the praises of his fellow ACC coaches.
The ACC is not really prepared to commit to a conference tournament in Madison Square Garden but that venue has many benefits.
The Pitt hoops coach is very used to the idea of realignment and it was good that Pitt was pro-active in this process. “The ACC is the best place for (Pitt) and (they) are fortunate that it worked out.” Occasionally playing in New York is important to recruiting there.
Dixon committed to do the best thing for Steven Adams and not the best thing for Dixon. In the long term Adams leaving for the NBA early will be the best thing for the program as well.
