2 Dead In Separate Shootings Around Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Two people were killed in separate shootings around Pittsburgh early Sunday morning.

According to the Medical Examiner's Office, the first shooting happened near the intersection of Nobles Lane and Denise Street in Carrick around 1:30 a.m.

Lamar Pondexter, 36, of Carrick was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jim Ray was turning onto Denise Street from Nobles Lane when he noticed Pondexter's body lying in the street.

"I seen something laying on the street, so there was a body there, though someone may have ran it over," he said. "I started calling 911 and some kids come down -- a girl and a guy -- and he seen the shell over there, so we knew he was shot and he was dead."

The second shooting happened on Pearl Road in Penn Hills around 3:40 a.m.

The victim has been identified as 34-year-old James Lipford, of Homewood. He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4:30 a.m.

No motive has been determined in his death.

No arrests have been made at this time in either case.
